FOX’s ‘Gotham': First Look at Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth
Now that the cast of FOX's Batman prequel drama 'Gotham' have begun to show up on set, the network has continued issuing in-character shots to introduce its characters. The latest on deck is none other than young Bruce Wayne's trusty butler and legal guardian Alfred Pennyworth, brought to life this time around by 'Elementary' star Sean Pertwee.
As with the other photos from 'Gotham,' including Donal Logue's Detective Harvey Bullock and Camren Bicondova's Selina Kyle, the first look at Pertwee's Alfred Pennyworth doesn't tell us much beyond the character's style of dress. According to official 'Gotham' descriptions however, this version of Alfred will be "a tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London who has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne."
FOX’s ‘Gotham’ will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot featuring Gordon’s investigation of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The pilot will also be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist”s Bruno Heller, along with Warner Bros. Television, and directed by ‘Judge Dredd’ helmer Danny Cannon. It has been confirmed that ‘Gotham’ will not have any direct ties to Ben Affleck‘s take on the Dark Knight for ‘Man of Steel’ follow-up film ‘Batman vs. Superman‘ or The CW’s ‘Arrow‘ series.
Cast in other known roles thus far are Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne, Robin Taylor as future Penguin Oswald Cobblepot, Jada Pinkett Smith as gangster Fish Mooney, Drew Powell as her associate Butch Gilzean, ‘Burn Notice‘ star Zabryna Guevara as Gordon’s GCPD boss Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancée Barbara Kean.
