While this week has a been especially fruitful for movie series getting the TV treatment, so much so that we had to wonder if TV reboots have become the new movie remake, it seems 'Friday the 13th' has been added to the pile. This is no Friday the 13th prank (do they have those?), it seems Jason may get the 'Smallville' treatment with his very own origins TV series titled 'Friday the 13th: Crystal Lake Chronicles'!

Take this one with a grain of salt mind you, but the actual 'Friday the 13th' anniversary led to some interesting talk between FearNet and series creator Sean Cunningham over the recent Complete Collection Blu-ray, wherein the Jason Voorhees creator laid out his plans for the franchise future. Not only may a new film begin shooting for a 2015 release, but Cunningham has begun development on 'Crystal Lake Chronicles,' an origin series of sorts that could potentially land an online release:

I think there will also be 'Friday the 13th: Crystal Lake Chronicles,' which is sort of a 'Smallville'. We’ve been on-again off-again with that for years and there are a bunch of great stories to be told, but I think the way that it’s finally going to get delivered is not through a conventional television network, but through the internet. I can’t tell you who the delivery people will be, but it won’t be the traditional route. There’s also the possibility of webisodes, and I think we even have an idea for a terrific Friday the 13th video game.

It’s also more than just me saying, “You know, 'Friday the 13th' would be a great series!” We’ve got a couple of really good writers that have been working and writing. It can’t be just Jason killing someone new every week. That’s not going to make it.

At this point, we'd be hard-pressed to imagine even an origins series revitalizing the franchise, but stranger things have certainly happened. And with all the spinoff and TV reboot talk these days, who's to stand in their way?

What say you? Would you want to see a 'Friday the 13th: Crystal Lake Chronicles' TV series move forward? What aspect of the Jason mythology would you want to see brought to light?
