The new Fast and Furious 7 trailer ends as the others have, with Vin Diesel driving a car off a skyscraper and into another while Jason Statham launches grenades at him. It’s an image that will never stop being one of the most ridiculous things we’ve ever seen and hopefully it will play just as well in context. However, this new trailer offers something that the others have not: a little perspective.

As fans an tell you, the original The Fast and the Furious was a pretty straightforward and relatively down-to-earth movie, a riff on the Point Break template with fast cars instead of surf boards. In the first movie, the biggest action beats were simple street races. The franchise’s gradual escalation into superhero mayhem has been so gradual that it’s easy to forget about those humble roots.

This new trailer opens with some footage we haven’t seen yet, showing Diesel and the newly resurrected Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) reminiscing about the good old days and participating in some street racing, which looks awfully quaint compared to their other automotive activities in the trailer. It looks like director James Wan plans to let the seventh film in this series acknowledge just how crazy things have gotten by allowing the our heroes to wax nostalgic about the days when they didn’t defy the laws of physics.

Furious 7 opens in theaters on April 3.
