‘Homeland’ Season 3 Spoilers: Who’s Behind the Big Attack?

While 'Homeland' season 3 won't officially debut until late September, fresh intel has repeatedly popped up about the new season taking place after the climactic events of last year's big bang. Executive producer Alex Gansa recently teased a major turn the resulting investigation could take, as well as Carrie and Brody's future, so get the latest on 'Homeland' season 3 inside!

'Homeland's second season dropped a major bombshell on its characters and audience alike, but will the real terror of season 3 wind up being closer to, well, home? Executive producer Alex Gansa recently sat down with ABC News to preview the new season debuting September 29, in which a few key details of the overarching plot bled in.

The issue in this season is, what happens if it were learned that a major attack on the United States was sponsored by a state? These are the big concerns that we're going to deal with in the first sweep of episodes. And then there's the big question about, you know, where Brody is?

Along with the impressive recent additions of Joanna Merlin, Nazanin Boniadi, Amy Morton, Lawrence Clayton, Sam Underwood, Gary Wilmes, Pedro Pascal and Tracy Letts, season 3 of ‘Homeland’ will see David Marciano (Virgil) and Diego Klattenhoff (Mike) stepping down as series regulars to take reduced roles, while Morena Baccarin will reprise her series regular role as Jessica Brody, in spite of her wrongly accused husband’s absence. David Harewood, Jamie Sheridan and Navid Negahban have all exited the series, given their characters’ fates.

‘Homeland’ season 3 picks up during the aftermath of the horrific terror attack that decimated the US intelligence apparatus, and prompted a global manhunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist — Nick Brody. As Carrie and Saul begin to pick up the pieces of their shattered professional and personal lives, they are swept up in the political and media firestorm surrounding the terror attack and the subsequent search for Brody’s whereabouts.
