Back in March it was reported that Warner Bros. was eyeing Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn to helm the sequel to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Although not officially confirmed, Vaughn seemed like a good, sensible choice; the director who (along with screenwriter Jane Goldman) revitalized the X-Men franchise with First Class could probably steer Henry Cavill’s Superman in the right direction (or at least a better one). And that might be the case, as Vaughn says he has indeed had talks with Warner Bros. about helming Man of Steel 2.

While making the press rounds for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Vaughn confirmed the Man of Steel sequel talks with Hey U Guys:

I am planning another Kingsman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.

That he does. Vaughn previously pitched a Superman movie idea to WB, but the studio passed in favor of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. As to whether he’ll actually helm the sequel to that film remains to be seen. Earlier this year, Vaughn admitted he’d been toying with the idea of a Kingsman 3, and it now appears that he’s a bit more committed to continuing the franchise.

Man of Steel 2 isn’t on WB’s DCEU release schedule, which seems to change pretty regularly. Vaughn’s potential involvement in the Superman sequel likely depends on when the studio wants to get the film into production, which could be next year or three years from now. Who knows.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives on September 22.
