Just when you thought it was safe to look at your television again on Saturday nights, Mega Shark is coming back for her third movie. And this time the fearsome creature is battling her most dangerous enemy yet -- Mecha Shark!

After battling a giant octopus in her first screen venture, 2009's imaginatively titled 'Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus,' and coming back for a few more rounds in 2010's 'Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus,' this extra-large leviathan is about to do battle with her mechanical double in 'Mega Shark Vs. Mecha Shark.'

"Legendary mockbuster studio" (at least that's what it says on the press release) The Asylum has given the green light to Mega Shark's third adventure, with Asylum partner Paul Bales saying, "The fan response to the Mega Shark franchise has been rabid. In addition to a very persuasive online petition, we found that Mega Shark has taken on a life of her own. We’ve received photos of Mega Shark cakes, toys and games on a near-daily basis, and we thought it was high time she did battle with an iconic Mecha monster.”

The press release does not state when production will begin, although casting will commence later this year (can they even top the one-two punch of Deborah Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas in the first film?). Expect this thing to show up sometime in 2013 on SyFy, where the previous two installments have enjoyed great success. We're not exactly sure who watches these pictures, but there's obviously an audience out there that is ready to watch Mega Shark get into it with Mecha Shark, which turns out to be a government weapon activated with the sole purpose of destroying our toothy heroine.

The Asylum, of course, is also responsible for movies like 'Battle of Los Angeles,' 'I Am Omega' and 'Paranormal Entity,' which all sound vaguely like something you've seen before.

Here's a 'Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus' trailer just to whet your appetite!
