Disney’s ‘Muppet Babies’ Reboot Reveals First Footage, New Characters
The new Muppet Babies are here to make your dreams come true once more. Following their initial 2016 announcement, Disney Junior has released a first look at the revamped children’s classic, including a new penguin character named Summer, and one fan-favorite we won’t see very much of.
Entertainment Weekly shared first footage and new photos from the forthcoming Muppet Babies reboot, which premieres in March on the Disney Junior network. The latest take on the 1984 series will “chronicle the playroom antics of Kermit, Piggy, Animal, and more. Even Miss Nanny will be returning,” with each episode featuring two 11-minute stories to “highlight creative and critical thinking” in ages 4-7. EW also provided a featurette on new character Summer, who – gasp – will largely take the place of Skeeter:
And here’s a closer look:
The new character is voiced by Jessica DiCicco and described as “super creative. She loves to draw, she loves to paint, she loves to dance—all at the same time. She’s the smallest of the group, but she definitely has the biggest heart.” Summer is an original creation for the new Muppet Babies, as was Skeeter for the original 1984-1991 series.
Disney has yet to set an official premiere date beyond March, so stay tuned.
