It’s been a while now since we’ve seen Orlando Bloom dressed up in pirate gear. The actor didn’t appear in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean, but will make his return as Will Turner in the upcoming Dead Men Tell No Tales. The only thing is, you might not totally recognize him.

Bloom makes a brief appearance in the latest TV spot for the fifth Pirates installment, but when you see him you might think, “Wait, dude, what’s all over your face?” No, Will doesn’t have a bad case of acne, he’s just covered in barnacles and crustaceans. As you may or may not remember, at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, Jack Sparrow used Will’s hand to stab and kill Davy Jones. It sent the tentacle-faced bad guy to his grave, but it also gave Will immortality and made him captain of the Flying Dutchman. Will now lives at the bottom of the ocean, acting as the pirate Charon carrying souls to the afterlife. And like his father, Stellan Skarsgard’s Bootstrap Bill, Will now sports sea creatures as facial accessories.

Dead Men Tell No Tales follows Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar as he and his crew of ghost pirates vow to kill every pirate at sea, including Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow. You can expect the fifth movie will have something to do with Bloom’s Will and his role on the Flying Dutchman, but the film will also bring back his son. Brenton Thwaites was officially confirmed as Will and Elizabeth’s (Keira Knightley) son, Henry Turner, and is the star of the new film. Since Will can only return to land once every 10 years, and since Henry looks to be about 20, you can expect Dead Men Tell No Tales to pick up a decade after the post-credits scene of At World’s End. Here’s the full synopsis:

The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.

The new movie from directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will also feature the return of Knightley (who we’ve yet to see in the new teasers) and Geoffrey Rush’s Captain Barbossa, and features newcomer Kaya Scodelario. A small group of critics got to see an early screening of the film at exhibitor convention CinemaCon earlier this week, and the reactions were surprisingly glowing. Some called the sequel the best Pirates movie since Curse of the Black Pearl, so if you consider yourself a Pirates fan, be excited. Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters May 26.
