The original structure of Spike Lee’s 1986 She’s Gotta Have It was well-suited to a TV adaptation, but where might Netflix take it in Season 2? We’ll find out, as both Lee and star DeWanda Wise confirm Nola Darling will keep living that Brooklyn life another season.

Lee and executive producer/wife Tonya Lewis Lee used the New Year’s holiday to confirm a second season – fitting, as all ten episodes of Season 1 dropped on another holiday, Thanksgiving. Nola Darling herself, DeWanda Wise followed up with a post of her own as well:

Happy New Year. Happy Year. Great News For 2018.

The dramedy re-imagines Lee’s 1986 film in a contemporary setting, and features Hamilton star Anthony Ramos in Lee’s original role of Mars Blackmon, along with Cleo Anthony as photographer Greer Childs and Lyriq Bent as the mature Jamie Overstreet. It remains to be seen if a second season would stick with the three-suitor approach, given that Season 1 more or less followed the movie’s resolution of Nola declaring none of the men an exclusive match. The series also incorporated a female lover for Nola, Opal (Ilfenesh Hadera), who will likely play a significant role in Season 2 as well.

Lee directed all ten installments of the first season, which is available to stream on Netflix right now. Watch the trailer below.
