Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ TV Series Gets Full Order at Spike

The original story of Stephen King’s The Mist didn’t lend itself to a serialized format (technically, neither did Under the Dome), but that isn’t going to stop Spike from trying. The network has officially greenlit a series adaptation of the King horror novella, eying ten episodes for 2017.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the order follows only two months after Spike commissioned a pilot for The Mist, noting that “Insiders say that the network was so impressed with the series pitch and script that they opted to go straight to series rather than proceed with a typical pilot order.”

Written by RITA scribe Christian Torpe, the new series will draw inspiration from the Stephen King novella, as well as Walking Dead alum Frank Darabont’s 2007 film. Spike’s The Mist will serve as its own original tale of a mist that creeps into a small town and creates havoc, placing the town’s residents face-to-face with their darkest fears, including both psychological terrors and otherwordly demons.

The 2007 film is also remembered for its ultra-bleak ending (as well as an early feature for The Walking Dead stars Melissa McBride, Jeffrey DeMunn and Laurie Holden), but will Spike’s version prove so memorable? Check out the original trailer below:
