'Supernatural' will feel markedly different when the eighth season of The CW's long-running horror thriller picks up under new show-runner Jeremy Carver.  Not only will the Winchester brothers still have to deal with the fallout of season 7 finale "Survival of the Fittest," but Sam and Dean will also find themselves flanked by angels and demons alike as the show returns to its mythological roots.  So with everything poised to tear the brothers apart, what surprising twist this season will keep them together?

Shocking discoveries, you say?  We're counting the days until October 3, when 'Supernatural' picks up its eighth season with Dean emerging from Purgatory to reunite with his brother Sam, as the brothers engage in an all-new 'Raiders of the Ark'-style quest.  Joining them will be a few new friends natural and supernatural alike, but what does the latest press release from The CW say about the brothers' relationship this year?

Season Eight begins with Dean’s seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory, though Castiel is nowhere to be found. However, Dean isn’t alone. He’s returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is perhaps more than Dean bargained for.

Meanwhile, Sam finds himself reconciling the life he discovered while Dean was gone with Dean’s sudden reappearance. As the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that could lead them on a deeply personal mission to settle old scores. If only they could agree – is this a “family business” or isn’t it?

So, what shocking discovery could bring the boys together once more?  Now that all that Leviathan chicanery is out of the way, are their deeper secrets yet to be uncovered within the history of the Winchester family?  What old scores still need to be settled?

In addition to a stronger presence for Misha Collins' Castiel, we’ve learned that ‘Supernatural’ season 8 will see the return of DJ Qualls’ eccentric  hunter Garth, as well as ‘Futurama’ voice Lauren Tom.  Elsewhere, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ veteran Ty Olsson will appear in the recurring role of a vampire named “Benny,” whom Dean meets during his stay in purgatory and ultimately helps him escape from said predicament.  Liane Balaban (‘Alphas,’ ‘Covert Affairs’) will appear as Sam’s new love interest Amelia, developed in the time the brothers spent separated, but ended by the season premiere.

What shocking secrets do you think the Winchester brothers will uncover this year?  Tell us what you're looking forward to about 'Supernatural' season 8 in the comments!
