One of my favorite parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was Gal Gadot’s costume as Wonder Woman. Not only was it a tiny splash of color in an otherwise monochrome film, it was also a nice departure from the overly bulky superhero costumes that have become the norm. Ben Affleck might be a great Batman, but there were times when he looked a little bit like Ralphie’s brother in A Christmas Story, too padded up to put his arms down, let alone fight his way through a warehouse of bad guys. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, looked every bit the agile warrior we were hoping for.

Then again, I’m not the one who actually had to wear the darn thing. Last weekend, during an appearance at Rhode Island Comic Con, Gadot answered questions about her upcoming Wonder Woman movie. According to ComicBook.com (via Heroic Hollywood), the actress was asked to describe her very frist impression of the iconic Wonder Woman costume. She had thoughts.

Tight. Very, very, very, very tight. The very-very first time I tried the costume on was three days after I got cast. And they flew me to Michigan, and I got into this huge hangar. Huge, with tons of white walls covered with posters of me as Wonder Woman. I got into the room and I couldn’t stop looking at the posters.

And then, when they wanted me to try on the costume  —  because I was so excited that they cast me for the role  —  I couldn’t say anything; I couldn’t breathe, but I was like, ‘That’s okay. That’s fine.’ It was really-really tight, and we adjusted it. And I love the costume. I think, it complements Wonder Woman very much so, as being the greatest warrior out there. And now it’s much more comfortable.

There’s an old saying about Ginger Rogers  —  the actress who danced alongside Fred Astaire in so many of those classic 1930s musicals  —  that claims she could do everything that Astaire did on the dance floor, only backwards and in heels. It’s probably about time we updated that saying for the new generation of comic book movies. So go ahead and brag about your CrossFit and exercise routines, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, but at the end of the day, remember this: Gal Gadot did everything you did, only in sandals and while wearing a metal corset.

Wonder Woman will hit theaters on June 2, 2017.
