The First Poster for ‘The Dark Tower’ Is Finally Here
With Sony being uncharacteristically quiet when it comes to The Dark Tower movie, fans have learned to take any new marketing material with a grain of salt. So when a fantastic new poster for the film found its way online last night, people who would normally be ecstatic about a new look at the upcoming release hesitated. Was this an official release from Sony or another piece of fan art masquerading as the real thing?
Guess no longer. This morning, Stephen King himself took to Twitter (via Heroic Hollywood) to share the new poster, pretty much putting to rest any concerns about it’s legitimacy:
This new poster features Idris Elba’s gunslinger as well as his companion Jake Chambers, played by actor Tom Taylor in his film debut. If you look closely at the top, you can also see Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black. Despite being a huge King fan — I count my first edition of Needful Things to be one of my most prized possessions — I have a weak spot when it comes to The Dark Tower series, so the significance of the artwork and the placement of the characters is your guess as good as mine. The fact that we’re already in mid-March and just now getting a movie poster has caused plenty of people to worry that Sony might bump The Dark Tower back a second time. For comparison’s sake, The Emoji Movie, another Sony Pictures film that hits theaters a week after King’s film, saw its first teaser trailer released on December 20 of last year. Sure, Stephen King fans tend to be a little more pessimistic than most — Hollywood doesn’t have a particularly great track record with adapting his novels, and The Dark Tower books are the Holy Grail among die-hard King fans — but for admirers of the adventures of Roland Deschain, the silence up until now has been deafening. Fingers crossed that this new poster means Sony is going to start ramping up its marketing in earnest.
The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Jackie Earle Haley, and Tom Taylor. It will saddled up to theaters — for now, anyways — on July 28, 2017.
