If, like us, you’re a fan of the 2005 action-comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, you’ll be excited to know that writer-director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) has been working on a spiritual sequel. Starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, The Nice Guys opens in theaters next summer and you can get a look with this new, (very) red-band trailer.

The film follows a private eye named Holland March (Gosling) who reluctantly teams up with enforcer Jackson Healy to solve the case of a 70s porn star who reportedly committed suicide. As they dig deeper into her life, they discover a conspiracy involving some very big players.

Though this trailer is very funny, Black told People magazine he doesn’t consider it a full-on comedy. But it is funny. “Whether this thing is a comedy with action or a thriller with jokes, one thing that’s very clear is these two are extremely funny. People will enjoy seeing the two of them.”

Describing the style of the film, and there is plenty of style to go around, Black says:

It is an R-rated film and it’s a caper. It’s a little fast, a little funny and a little rough in places, kind of coarse. These guys are working-class dudes, they’re not really sophisticated private detectives, so it’s a chance to do the kind of thriller I don’t see too much of anymore.

Sounds like a Shane Black movie to me. Even if you didn’t like Black’s take on Iron Man 3, and with the whole Mandarin switcheroo, many people did not, this looks like something you don’t want to miss.

In addition to Gosling and Crowe, The Nice Guys also stars Matt Bomer, Ty Simpkins, Keith David and Kim Basinger (!!).

The Nice Guys hits theaters May 20, 2016
