The title of the third film in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise has been revealed and it shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Since the previous film concluded with the stalemate between Caeser’s tribe and the humans of San Francisco bubbling over into bloodshed, it’s only natural that the follow-up would be titled War of the Planet of the Apes.

The report comes to us from Collider, who have been on-point with their scoops for a good long time. Plus, what other title could the sequel have? The last movie promised all-out war in the next installment and this title ensures that that the new film will deliver on that promise. Plus, Battle For the Planet of the Apes was already taken.

Speaking of delivering, War of the Planet of the Apes already faces an uphill battle just by being a sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is one of the best mainstream science fiction movies to hit theaters in quite some time. However, the return of director Matt Reeves and star Andy Serkis gives us hope for this one. The desperate moral conflicts of this series were already gripping before actual war broke out. The possibilities from here are endless, especially since this series has never been afraid comment on modern society through its post-apocalyptic lens. We are excited (and afraid) to see what this team can do with War of the Planet of the Apes.
