Just the other day Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' bought itself some serious season 2 credit with the addition of Adrianne Palicki as Marvel's Mockingbird, but now the 'Avengers'-adjacent series has added what might be its most high-profile Marvel baddie yet. 'Teen Wolf' star Brian Patrick Wade will play Carl "Crusher" Creel, better known as Hulk and Thor villain "The Absorbing Man," as revealed in the first new photo from the season premiere!

Marvel themselves revealed the news of the Absorbing Man's villainous 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' turn in the season premiere, though some eagle-eyed fans spotted Wade on the set earlier this month, his arm seemingly made up in an eerie blue color. Now we know why! And while we don't know exactly what brings Wade's Crusher Creel up against Coulson and his team, here's what Marvel had to say of the character's season 2 premiere role:

With his ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches, Creel will put Coulson and his team through their paces when their second season kicks off...but you'll have to wait until then to see how their battle turns out!

The character of Absorbing Man is most commonly utilized as a Hulk villain, with Ang Lee's 2003 film grafting his matter-shifting abilities onto Nick Nolte's character, all in spite of the villain first appearing in Thor comics with an origin tied to Loki. That said, it's difficult to say if either superhero ends up directly, or indirectly incorporated into the character's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' appearance.

Elsewhere of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2, we know that 'Xena' star Lucy Lawless will play veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabel Hartley, while Nick Blood will join as mercenary and comic S.T.R.I.K.E. character Lance Hart. ‘Dollhouse’ star and Whedon favorite Reed Diamond will play Daniel Whitehall (Secret Wars’ Kraken) as a Hydra baddie, while 'Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachlan will appear as Skye's apparently-gooey father. Additionally, we know Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot will return to menace the team, while Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill has been confirmed for an eventual reappearance, as well.

It's certainly an interesting choice to incorporate such a high-profile villain as the Absorbing Man into 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' though we imagine the lack of any imminent 'Hulk' movie makes the emerald Avenger's antagonists a bit more accessible, as previously seen with Glenn Talbot. While we wait for further news of season 2, check out our first photo of Marvel's new Absorbing Man below, and tell us what you want to see when Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' returns for season 2 on September 23!
