Fans of Showtime's 'Dexter' are no doubt every bit as eager to see the season 8 premiere on June 30 as they are to learn if 'Dexter' season 8 will prove to be the last for Showtime's serial killer, but how else might season 8 prove unique? Series lead Michael C. Hall may decide to call it quits after season 8, but that isn't stopping the titular star from jumping behind the camera to direct his own episode! Find out about 'Dexter's' new role out of the spotlight inside!

Even with an early premiere of June 30, 'Dexter' season 8 still remains something of a mystery to fans, particularly whether or not Showtime will look to end the series altogether with it. Whether or not that ends up being the case, 'Dexter' season 8 will at least stand out for the fact that series star Michael C. Hall will step behind the camera for the first time to direct his own episode, according to Jennifer Carpenter's Twitter.

Hall will in fact direct the season's second episode "Every Silver Lining," though it remain to be seen if the episode will focus more on Deb, or find another reason for Hall to spend less time in front of the camera. Recent set photos and castings could certainly make the case for a more Deb-centric story coming up.

Elsewhere, ‘Dexter’ season 8 will feature appearances from 'Entourage's' Rhys Coiro as a bail jumper on Deb's radar, ‘The Walking Dead‘ star Nick Gomez as a hitman that comes to tangle with Deb, Charlotte Rampling as criminal profiling neuro-psychiatrist Dr. Evelyn Vogel, and ‘The Boondock Saints’ star Sean Patrick Flanery as ex-cop turned private-eye Jacob Elroy.

Well, what say you? Are you excited to see Michael C. Hall directing an episode? Could 'Dexter' season 8 be the final year for the series? Give us your predictions for the June 30 premiere in the comments!
