While AMC's 'The Walking Dead' companion series spinoff admittedly felt much more warranted than 'Breaking Bad''s 'Better Call Saul,' we still have relatively little idea what to expect from the 2015 spawning of the monster horror hit. And while details will be clamped shut tighter than a walker's jaw, series creator Robert Kirkman offered up a few new tidbits of 'The Walking Dead''s inevitable spinoff.

We had our own ideas how best to differentiate a new series from the comic-centric stories that have influenced 'The Walking Dead' thus far, and it seems some similar notions occurred to Kirkman. Speaking to IGN, the series creator expressed his excitement over crafting an original tale within the 'Walking Dead' world, one with a decidedly different setting than the Georgia wilderness we've seen the past 3 seasons.

It’s a really different location with completely different people, so we are going to see an entirely different corner of the Walking Dead world. It definitely won’t be set in Georgia, I can at least say that. It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.

So that’s something we’re all working hard towards doing, and I think we can pull it off. I think that the ideal situation is, when you’re watching the spinoff, you’re like, “Wow, this is a really awesome show.” The whole other show doesn’t need to exist for this show to be cool and stand on its own.

While we await the latest news from ‘The Walking Dead’ season 4, the next run of the AMC horror-drama will introduce ‘The Wire’ star Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. as comic character Bob Stookey, ‘Twilight‘ vet Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa, Alanna Masterson as a new mystery character, and upgrade actors Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney to series regulars. The returning David Morrissey’s villainous Governor has been upgraded to series regular, though beyond this season his involvement seems unlikely.

We'll have 'The Walking Dead' season 4 premiere "30 Days Without An Accident" as well as the New York Comic-Con panel to keep the blood flowing this weekend, but in the meantime, what say you? Are you excited to hear that 'The Walking Dead' spinoff will definitively take place in a new setting, even if it limits crossover potential?

Check out the latest sneak peek from the premiere below, and give us your 'Walking Dead' spinoff wishlist in the comments!
