The CW's comic-book adapted series has picked up its latest acquisition in 'ER' vet and 'Doctor Who' fan favorite Alex Kingston, set to play the oft-discussed Dinah Lance. Not the DC superhero Black Canary mind you, a role to one-day be taken up by Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), but rather her estranged mother! Find out what brings Alex Kingston to 'Arrow' in the near future inside!

Continuing its geek-friendly hot streak, The CW's 'Arrow' has targeted 'Doctor Who's River Song for a pivotal role in an upcoming 2013 episode. Entertainment Weekly first broke the news, revealing that UK thesp Alex Kingston will appear in a recurring role as Dinah Lance, Laurel’s mother and Detective Quentin’s (Paul Blackthorne) estranged ex-wife.

The character will reportedly resurface looking to reconcile with her family, whom she abandoned to deal with the grief of losing their other daughter Sara to the yacht accident that initially shipwrecked Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) on a mysterious island. 'Arrow' initially established that its Dinah Lance (Cassidy) took to going by middle name "Laurel" to distance herself from her mother.

With a genre-friendly roster that already includes 'Torchwood's John Barrowman, 'Dollhouse's Tahmoh Penikett and 'X2' star Kelly Hu, upcoming episodes will also feature the likes of returning star Jessica De Gouw’s Huntress, 'Fringe' star Seth Gabel as Count Vertigo, ‘Battlestar Galactica‘s James Callis as The Dodger, ‘Teen Wolf’ star Colton Haynes as Roy Harper, and ‘Spartacus‘ lead Manu Bennett taking over the role of Slade Wilson / Deathstroke.

Well, what say you? Are you excited to see Alex Kingston join another genre show like 'Arrow?' what other sci-fi stars do you think could find a place on The CW's hit series?
