Once word broke that True Detective and Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga had in mind to direct talent like Jonah Hill and Emma Stone in a new dark comedy series, we knew the premium outlets would move fast. Unsurprisingly, Netflix managed to snap up the trio’s Maniac with a full series order.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix will again host Fukunaga for the new 10-episode series, the Beast of No Nation helmer also directing each installment. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone already locked to star, Maniac emerges from a 2014 Norwegian series of a man living a fantasy life in his dreams, but in reality locked up at an institution.

For the moment, no official writer has yet been chosen, while Fukunaga, Stone and Hill will executive produce the Paramount TV project with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald.

Initial reports had Maniac eyed for a two-season order, but will Stone and Hill really stick around a scripted series that long? What should we expect from the adaptation? Watch the original Maniac trailer below.
