Gotham hasn’t been shy teasing both Mr. Freeze and Hugo Strange in advance of its 2016 return, and the latest trailer sees both in action. Not only that, but Edward Nygma may be setting his sights on Gordon, and Mr. Freeze may yet have some white in his future.

In addition to our first footage of Jurassic World star B.D. Wong as Batman villain Dr. Hugo Strange, the latest look at Gotham Season 2's latter half “Wrath of the Villains” (let’s hope every half-season has some generic “X of the Villains” title) burns through a fair amount of Mr. Freeze’s story, referencing both Nora Fries and Victor (Nathan Darrow)’s inevitable transformation. Plus, Nygma’s taken his question mark fetish to green. Progress!

So reads the official Gotham press release for February 29 return “Mr. Freeze”:

A CHILLING VILLAIN EMERGES IN GOTHAM ON AN ALL-NEW “GOTHAM” MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29, ON FOX MON FEB 29 8/7c

Penguin takes a hit for Galavan’s murder, but doesn’t let Gordon off easily. Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers in the all-new “Rise of the Villains: Mr. Freeze” winter premiere episode.

In any case, the back half of Gotham’s second season won’t just introduce us to Mr. Freeze and Hugo Strange, as Jada Pinkett Smith has been confirmed to reprise her first year role as Fish Mooney, last seen being tossed off a roof. There’s also the outside chance that Cameron Monaghan’s Not-Joker might return, given the character’s popularity, but who knows?
