Superman must always have a Lex Luthor, and so it is that Supergirl will be sticking with one of Season 2’s best additions. Season 3 of the CW drama has officially upped Katie McGrath’s Lena Luthor to series regular, ensuring our favorite Supergirl ship will live on.

Per Deadline, former Merlin and Jurassic World star McGrath has only appeared in seven Supergirl episodes to date, but will make a full-fledged return in Season 3 this fall. The character is noted as the adopted half-sister of Lex Luthor, and has her own complicated relationship with the city’s Kryptonian protector.

For the moment, relatively little is known of Supergirl Season 3, its second year on The CW after an initial run on CBS. This coming Monday will see Kara recovering from her musical adventures with the return of director Kevin Smith and guest star Lynda Carter, while Season 2 wild cards Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo will also continue their role as Mon-El (Chris Wood)’s parents.

We’ll knock on some wood that Season 3 capitalizes on the surprising chemistry of Kara and Lena Luthor (and maybe brings back Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark?), but in the meantime, check out the latest Supergirl trailer below, and stay tuned for more on Seasons 2 and 3.
