Late last week HBO officially announced that Aaron Sorkin drama 'The Newsroom' would return for its eagerly anticipated season 2 on July 14, offering up a vague story tease of events to come in the real-world news reporting series. Now, the first official teaser trailer has hit, but is it any less vague than the announcement that preceeded it? Where's 'The Newsroom's' all-star cast in the first sneak peek of the season?

Fans of HBO's controversial Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama 'The Newsroom' were somewhat surprised to learn that HBO would keep the drama's second season until July 14, where 'True Blood' season 6 would hold its premiere on June 16. Perhaps even more surprising is that in HBO's first teaser trailer for 'The Newsroom' season 2, the cast is nowhere to be found!

The brief, but effective teaser literally sets the stage for the drama's return, which sees the ACN staffers chasing a mysterious tip, which supposedly leads to a story that "ultimately spins out of control." Elsewhere, the second season of HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ features appearances by ‘Justified‘ star Patton Oswalt as the fictional networks new vice president of human resources, and Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer as a reporter embedded within the Mitt Romney campaign.

We know that much of the second season would focus on the 2012 elections, but Sorkin added to the list of news stories events such as Trayvon Martin, the Affordable Care Act, drones, Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Muammar Gaddafi.
