The Simpsons spent enough time dealing with Harry Shearer’s potential exit that we lost sight of other Hollywood talent to partake of future episodes, but already Season 27 has more major names lined up. Not only will Modern Family favorite Sofia Vergara tempt Bart as a new teacher, we’ll also see Girls star Andrew Rannells in a surprising role.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vergara will appear in mid-Season 27 episode “Teenage Mutant Milk-Caused Hurdles” as Bart’s attractive new teacher Ms. Berrera (picture below), in which Bart drinks a milk substitute full of bad hormones, experiences early puberty and grows a mustache along with feelings for his new teacher. Says executive producer Al Jean of the character, along with a complication Principal Skinner brings:

She’s more forgiving than Mrs. Krabappel was of Bart. She pays special attention to him. […] We thought it’d be interesting if both Bart and Skinner have a crush on the same woman. She feels Skinner is a wounded soul that she wants to take care of. She is a vet like Skinner, and that’s his attraction.

The character may also return, given the show’s retirement of Edna Krabappel (and the late Marcia Wallace), Jean offering:

We have a situation where Bart doesn’t have a regular teacher, so she may or may not come back. [Sofia] was really funny and we were glad to have her. And as she said, ‘I’m just 100 yards away on the Fox lot.’

Apart from Vergara, TVLine also previews that Andrew Rannells will appear in an April episode as himself, as Marge takes Lisa on a girls’ weekend to Capitol City, specifically a performance of Bad News Bears: The Musical, starring Rannells. The mother-daughter duo encounter Rannells during a backstage meet-and-greet, in which the Book of Mormon star reminds Lisa she should appreciate having such a wonderful mom.

Elsewhere, know of The Simpsons Season 27 (with 28 already confirmed) that Ghostbusters and SNL star Kate McKinnon will lend her voice as a homeless woman Lisa befriends, while Lena Dunham’s Girls castmates will join her for the premiere, in which nobody gets divorced. Another episode will parody Boyhood through Bart’s upbringing, while the “Treehouse of Horror” special will finally allow Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer) to achieve his life’s purpose of killing the boy.

Time will tell if The Simpsons Season 27 brings about any notable changes, but how are the most recent guest stars shaping things up?
