‘Versace: American Crime Story’ Reveals Penelope Cruz’s Donatella
The casting of Donatella Versace led the American Crime Story Season 3 buzz, so it’s only fair the character debut a first photo. See Penelope Cruz decked out as Gianni’s sister in a first look at Ryan Murphy’s third entry into the American Crime Story world.
Despite the second, Katrina-based season arriving first, Entertainment Weekly debuted a first look at the newly-titled The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The photo itself was taken at Gianni’s Villa Casa Casuarina home (also site of his death), where the season was partly filmed.
So far, the FX drama’s third year has confirmed Point Break star Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace himself, with Glee and Flash star Darren Criss as his killer, Andrew Cunanan, and Ricky Martin as Versace’s partner Antonio D’Amico. New Girl star Max Greenfield also appears in an unknown role. Season 3 will follow the July 1997 murder, which – historical spoiler alert – ended with Cunanan’s suicide suicide eight days later.
Its first two episodes written by Tom Rob Smith, the season will draw from Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth’s book Vulgar Favors. Seasons 2 and 3 will shoot concurrently, with the third season airing within six months of Katrina, and the Monica Lewinsky story arriving sometime after that.
We’ll hopefully get a look at Katrina before long, but what do we make of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story so far?
