Report: Lady Gaga Leads ‘American Crime Story’ S3 as Donatella Versace
If you thought perhaps Lady Gaga had the short end of the stick sculpture in American Horror Story Season 6, Ryan Murphy might make up for it in a big way. Reports claim that Gaga will take a major role in the third (yes, third) season of American Crime Story, portraying Donatella Versace herself.
Take this with a minor grain of salt for the moment (Season 3 is shooting concurrent with Season 2), but US Weekly claims that Gaga has already been cast for a leading role in the Emmy-winner’s third season, following next year’s Katrina focus and the initial O.J. Simpson showcase. Season 3 will follow the July 1997 murder of Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan, who – historical spoiler alert – committed suicide eight days later as police closed in.
Its first two episodes written by Tom Rob Smith, the season will be based on Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth’s book Vulgar Favors. For her part, Gaga actually starred in Versace’s 2014 ad campaign, and has a close friendship with Donatella herself. This, despite the Versace organization previously dismissing Murphy’s adaptation as “as a work of fiction.”
FX will likely come forth to clarify more of the Season 2 and 3 casts soon, but is Gaga otherwise a perfect fit for Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story?
