Well, there’s two properties you never expected to share a casting announcement. Yes, following his work on HBO’s The Brink, former Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi has landed himself two shiny new gigs, one busting hackers for USA’s Mr. Robot, the other as a sinister uncle to Netflix’s Series of Unfortunate Events. I smell crossover!

Per Deadline, Mandvi will take the recurring Mr. Robot role as Jesse, a special agent described a bit of a “dog,” we’d imagine among those tasked with finding Elliot and his fsociety cronies. The meatier part belongs to Netflix’s take on A Series of Unfortunate Events, picking up from Billy Connolly’s 2004 film role as the nefarious Uncle Monty, who the Baudelaire children are sent to live with.

In addition to Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket and Neil Patrick Harris taking over Jim Carrey’s memorable 2004 Count Olaf, Mandvi joins Supergirl star Malina Weissman in the role of eldest child Violet Baudelaire, joined by newcomer Louis Hynes as Klaus.

Mr. Robot Season 2 will premiere on USA this summer, while Netlflix has yet to specify a general premiere window for its Series of Unfortunate Events.
