Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2 has kept casting pretty quiet on the march to Comic-Con 2014, particularly compared to the CW's 'Arrow' or 'Flash,' but at long last the Marvel 'Avengers' offshoot series has its first major might. 'Xena' herself, Lucy Lawless will guest star in the upcoming second season of Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' but in what marvelous role?

TVGuide first broke news of Lawless' casting, though somewhat unsurprisingly, no details of the role or its length within the second season have been released. One thing is for sure at least, as given the rights disparity between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, Lawless will not in fact be reprising her 2002 'Spider-Man' role of "That Punk Chick Who Says, 'Guy With Eight Hands? Sounds Hot.'"

Chakram to our heads, it wouldn't be too difficult to imagine Lawless as one of the surviving S.H.I.E.L.D. remnants after the events of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' but our guess would hew closer to Skye's origins, considering the season 1 finale stinger that saw the character's father introduced in silhouette as a dripping, apparently inhuman figure. Or you know, maybe Captain Marvel. Get that rumor mill churning, America!

More seriously, TVLine points out that had been looking to cast the recurring role of “Mary Maloney, a highly skilled agent who can 'command any room' (and boasts 'effortless sex appeal')." Lawless had also previously worked with 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen on either's prior 'Spartacus' gig.

What do you think? Will Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' prove any more super in its second outing this fall? Who do you think Lucy Lawless will end up playing when Coulson and the team return for season 2? Stay tuned for the latest from Comic-Con 2014, and give us your predictions in the comments!
