John Travolta Comes Out to Play in New ‘People v. O.J. Simpson’ Teasers

Whatever camp catastrophe Ryan Murphy manages to conjure by the end of American Horror Story: Hotel, we will happily return for a terribly-wigged John Travolta, come February’s American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. At long last, its teasers have finally grown a face, and our chills are thoroughly multiplying.

FX debuted two new looks at American Crime Story beyond the obscured teasers and panicked pooch, debuting Travolta first as Simpson’s attorney Robert Shapiro. The second keeps Cuba out of frame for the time being, as the accused criminal prepares to take a lie-detector test.

The 10-episode miniseries follows Jeffrey Toobin book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, with episodes written by Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski, and directed by Ryan Murphy. Produced by Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Dante Di Loretto, so reads the official synopsis for the new series, which begins production this year:

‘American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson’ is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers that explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

Included among the cast are Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, David Schwimmer as Kardashian patriarch Robert, Billy Magnussen as Kato Kaelin, Selma Blair as Kris Jenner, Jordana Brewster as Denise Brown, Kenneth Choi as Judge Ito, Connie Britton as Faye Resnick, Bruce Greenwood as Gil Garcetti, Steven Pasquale as Mark Fuhrman, Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden, Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Al Cowlings, Evan Handler as Alan Dershowitz and Cheryl Ladd as Linell Shapiro.

Keeping to the American Horror Story model, subsequent seasons will follow other headline-making real-world crimes, though it’s unclear if the series would reuse cast members, like its predecessor.
