February is officially part of the summer, at least as far as Hollywood is concerned. For the past two years, a big superhero movie has opened in February to huge grosses. This year we had The LEGO Batman Movie; in 2016, Deadpool shocked the world by becoming one of the biggest R-rated hits ever.

Next year’s presumptive financial cinematic dominator will be Marvel’s Black Panther, the first solo adventure starring the African hero, played by Chadwick Boseman. The character debuted in Captain America: Civil War, and you’ll also see him in Avengers: Infinity War. But first, he’s getting his own movie, directed by Creed’s Ryan Coogler.

Ahead of the debut of the first teaser (it’ll premiere during the NBA Finals tonight), Disney just unveiled the brand new poster for the film. Behold Boseman’s T’Challa on his throne.

Black Panther Teaser

Although Boseman is the only cast member on the poster, the film also stars Michael B. Jordan (as the awesomely named Erik Killmonger), Lupita Nyong’o, Get Out‘s Daniel Kaluuya, and Angela Bassett as T’Challa’s mother.

Note the Wakandan letters all around Panther’s throne. I imagine that’s a real invented language like Klingon, and at some point in the future we’re going to learn how it works and get to find out just what that inscription reads. My guess: “On behalf of Marvel, I officially annex February into the summer movie season.”

As the poster makes quite clear, Black Panther opens in theaters on February 16, 2018.
