After the devastating hour that was 'Boardwalk Empire's second season finale "To the Lost," we knew that the series would never again be the same.  Not only did one of the series most crucial characters fall by the wayside, their death changed Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) in a way that will reverberate throughout the upcoming third season.  With that said though, will death really be the end?  Might said character return from the grave in 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3?

We all poured one out "To the Lost" when last year's tragic 'Boardwalk Empire' finale robbed us of series mainstay Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt), but could the character actually make a return in the coming season?  For a series that employs flashbacks as well as dream sequences, might we see Michael Pitt's character alive and well again, or would the memory be too painful?

TVLine was able to confirm that we in fact will see Jimmy Darmody again early into 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3, though in a strictly technical manner.  The character will appear in flashback, though the series will not use any newly-shot footage of the actor for the return.  Instead, his presence is largely meant to be felt as a weight on Nucky's conscience, as well as through his mother Gillian Darmody.

As revealed in the article, the coming season of 'Boardwalk Empire' will see Gillian taking on her own brothel in the wake of her son's death, and hiring similarly distraught assassin Richard Harrow (Jack Huston) to help take care of the departed Angela and Jimmy's young son Tommy.  Mum's the word however, as Gillian doesn't want Richard making any mention of the boy's parents, lest he remember the trauma growing up.

What say you?  Do you think Michael Pitt still might reappear as Jimmy Darmody at some point during 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3?  What are you most looking forward to about the new season?  Pull up a drink, and give us your take in the comments!
