'True Blood' season 5 and 'The Newsroom' have all come and gone, and will 'Falling Skies' fallen behind and the fifth season of 'Breaking Bad' about to break for the year, our Sunday's are looking increasingly bare.  However are we to tide over the wait until 'Boardwalk Empire's season 3 premiere, with an ocean between now and September 16?  Surely we're not as dry as prohibition, but how about a new season 3 trailer to whet your whistle?

Leave it to HBO to save the good stuff for last.  Along with last night's 'True Blood' season 5 finale "Save Yourself," the pay-cabler network popped the cork on what has to be 'Boardwalk Empire' season 3's best trailer yet.  The 90-second spot ominously paints a target on Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi)'s back in the wake of Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt)'s murder, as the Atlantic City crime lord becomes increasingly withdrawn.

Compounding Nucky's seclusion are the revenge-fueled ire of Richard Harrow (Jack Huston) and Gillian Darmody (Gretchen Mol), as well as brazen new gangster Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Canavale), who certainly isn't one to bow to Nucky to accomplish his goals in Atlantic City.

In addition to our first glimpse at character actor Stephen Root ('Justified,' 'King of the Hill'), the new trailer also affords us a look at James Cromwell, whom we previously weren't aware was to guest star in 'Boardwalk Empire's third year.  After Michael Pitt’s departure as Jimmy, Paz de la Huerta’s Lucy Danziger will no longer be present either.  ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 3 will open some 15 months after the events of “To the Lost,” landing on New Year’s Eve 1922-1923.

Before the September 16 premiere “Resolution,” check out the new trailer below, and tell us what you’re most looking forward to about ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 3 in the comments!
