'Captain America: The First Avenger' concludes with the title superhero presumed to be dead, leaving his allies and friends facing an uncertain future. But what exactly happened to Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Steve Roger's British agent love interest, while the Cap was frozen in ice? Marvel's latest 'One-Shot' short film will answer that question -- and it looks like she didn't spend her post-'Captain America' years lying down on the job.

Directed by Louis D’Esposito, 'Agent Carter' will follow Peggy Carter's career in the spy organization SSR, which would later morph into S.H.I.E.L.D. "It’s a year since Cap plunged into the ocean," D’Esposito told EW. "And in our mind, we said there’s a few SSR offices ... There’s some satellite offices in New York and right now their primary concern is getting Zodiac," which all we know is "it's deadly, it’s important, bad guys are guarding it, and it’s imperative she gets it.” Another familiar face featured in 'Agent Carter' is Dominic Cooper's reprised Howard Stark, Tony's father from 'Captain America.'

'Captain America: The First Avenger' is a film with many high points, but Atwell was one of the highest. Tough, gorgeous and the equal of every man in the cast, it felt like a shame that we wouldn't get to see more of her adventures when the credits rolled. So we can't wait to see the return of Agent Carter, a character who D'Esposito says "proves that the best man for the job [is] a woman."

EW has premiered the first look at the short, revealing three stills and a vintage-y poster that resembles a battered pulp paperback from the '60s, which you can check out below. If you'll be attending Comic-Con 2013, you can attend the short's premiere Friday, Jul. 19. If you won't be at the Con, 'Agent Carter' will be on the 'Iron Man 3' Blu-ray, which hits shelves Sep. 24.
