How Easy Is It for Someone Who’s Never Watched ‘Game of Thrones’ to Understand ‘Game of Thrones’?
With dozens upon dozens of main characters, complex intersecting plots, and a detailed off-screen history, there’s no denying that Game of Thrones can be a difficult show to follow. Even as a diehard fan, I often refer to Wikipedia pages and read recaps to keep up with the events of the show. But is it actually that hard to understand? Can a total Thrones newbie jump into the show six seasons in and figure out what’s happening?
We decided to find out. We made ScreenCrush Editor-in-Chief Matt Singer, who doesn’t watch Game of Thrones (Full disclosure: He did watch the pilot years ago) watch the Season 6 finale, “The Winds of Winter.” Then I quizzed him about the episode to find out just how much he understood about the episode. Did he follow what was happening? Did he recognize the characters and their relationships? Could he hum the show’s theme song? Or would he lose this game of Thrones in epic fashion? Find out in the spoiler-heavy video above.
