‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Might Be Planning its Next Great Battle
There’s very little guideline for the remaining Game of Thrones seasons; whether to expect another all-out battle toward the end of Season 7’s truncated run, or if all major conflicts will wrap up before the final White Walker showdown in Season 8. Still, Season 7 laid out some very clear confrontations ahead, and new set reports suggest Daenerys might be out of her element in a major battlefield showdown.
Take this with a grain of salt for the moment (as well a chance of spoilers), but those mad geniuses at Vanity Fair managed to string together a number of recent reports from Season 7 production, including a Los Siete Reinos and Watchers on the Wall casting call likely seeking actors for Unsullied and Dothraki, and an impending shoot at Los Barruecos of Malpartida in Spain. The suggestion, fitting director Jeremy Podeswa’s visit to the site earlier this year? Daenerys is about to endure her first major battle.
According to rumor, those Unsullied aand Dothraki Horse-lords will be going up against a combined force of Queen Cersei’s Lannister forces, as well as Euron Greyjoy’s Ironborn. The monthlong shoot also more or less matches the amount of time it took director Miguel Sapochnik (who’s sadly absent this year) to shoot Season 6's infamous “Battle of the Bastards.”
Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, a list of directors for the year has been announced, along with rumors of some major set pieces, while at least a portion of filming will take place in Iceland. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent has been confirmed for a “significant” role, but sadly without Angela Lansbury.
If nothing else, we might finally get to see Daenerys in a battle more eventful than dragon fire and High Valyrian smacktalk. We’ll learn plenty more in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, check out the first Game of Thrones Season 7 production tease below.
