‘Game of Thrones’ Author Narrows ‘Winds of Winter’ Release to 2017 … Maybe
We’re long past the point of worrying if HBO’s Game of Thrones will spoil any of author George R.R. Martin’s remaining books; now just wondering when we’ll get to read the darn things. There may be good news on that front, as Martin is pretty sure sixth book The Winds of Winter will be out in 2017.
Time and time again, Martin has reiterated that he writes and edits at his own pace, as well that projected deadlines are never exact. Still, after years of speculation, Martin at least put forth in (where else) a LiveJournal comment that The Winds of Winter would likely be published within 2017 (before immediately hedging that bet):
Not done yet, but I’ve made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now.
I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).
Amusingly, the above entry also saw Martin missing his prediction that Westworld would best Game of Thrones at the 2017 Golden Globes, which ended up rewarding Netflix’s The Crown with the top drama prize. In any case, It’s possible that Martin’s book release could end up tied to Season 7 in summer 2017, though one would imagine he’d know by now if such a date were plausible
Hey, it’s a window! Stay tuned, Game of Thrones fans.
