'Guardians of the Galaxy' is Marvel's most ambitious effort yet, taking the Cinematic Universe established with 'The Avengers' movies to the farthest reaches of the universe. For cryin' out loud, there's a talking raccoon and a Hulk-like tree! We all know you want to get a taste of what director James Gunn cooked up, and now you can in select IMAX theaters across the country.

IMAX and Marvel today announced 'Guardians of the Galaxy: An IMAX 3D First Look,' which is exactly what it sounds like -- showcased in 150 IMAX 3D locations across North America and select international venues, 17 minutes of exclusive footage from Marvel's space opera will screen on July 7 at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the event are free and are available now on the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Facebook page. While it is a first-come, first-served event, those attending will also get an IMAX poster of the film as an added incentive.

Says Gunn of this new footage:

We’ve re-mastered some of our epic sequences into the IMAX 3D format, taking the scope and scale to new heights while creating a truly immersive, cinematic experience that will take you further into the Marvel Universe than ever before.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' features a new band of misfit heroes -- Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot -- as they fight to protect the universe from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).

Said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment.

IMAX and Marvel fans are some of the most die-hard in the world and we’re excited to offer them this exclusive extended first-look at one of the summer’s hottest upcoming movies in IMAX 3D. James Gunn’s visionary film in IMAX 3D is going to give our audiences an immersive experience they won’t find anywhere else, and we’re thrilled to get the ball rolling and reward fans early at this unique event.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' opens in theaters on August 1.
