‘Iron Fist’ Probably Won’t Get a Costume in ‘The Defenders’ Either
Whether or not Marvel’s Iron Fist succeeded in bringing the character to life, few would argue the oddity of Season 1 never attempting any outfit to evoke the classic costume. It would be odder still if The Defenders never gave all four heroes a chance to fight side-by-side in their comic looks, but according to Charlie Cox, Iron Fist might not suit up in The Defenders either.
Previously, both Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck and Finn Jones defended (heh) the notion that Danny Rand’s Season 1 arc never led anywhere a costume made sense, as the character was still figuring out his role as the title warrior. Season 1 did pay tribute to the classic look, and Jones has suggested we might see Danny in costume down the line, but a recent Boogaloo Radio interview with Charlie Cox saw the Daredevil star pointing out that none of his co-stars wear costumes in The Defenders:
When we filmed the first two seasons of Daredevil, it destroyed me. Defenders is slightly different because it has four of us. We can’t all be together all the time so there’s a lot more time off. The way it worked out is quite cool because since my character is the only one that has a mask, when we did action sequences they have to make sure they get the other three doing their bits because they could always use my stunt double.
Back in March, Jones suggested it could take several Iron Fist seasons before Danny Rand reached a point of wanting to wear any recognizable outfits:
He’s trying to find his identity. Eventually throughout the series he kind of claims some kind of identity through his clothes – but we’ve got a couple more seasons to go before we get to that point.
Our first formal Defenders teaser showed even Daredevil easing back on the costumed life, but this isn’t People in Regular Clothes Fighting Ninjas and Punching Elevators, is it? What other familiar Iron Fist looks might we end up waiting a few seasons for?
