Jeff Goldblum is a national treasure. And in Thor: Ragnarok, the upcoming Marvel Studios film, he becomes an intergalactic treasure. He plays the Grandmaster, an alien being who runs barbaric gladiatorial games for the pleasure of his minions. Also he has a blue soul patch. He’s pretty cool, to be honest.

Whatever Goldblum’s contributions to the film itself, he has already made immeasurable contributions to Ragnarok’s marketing campaign, as when he took over the Marvel Studios Twitter account this week to answer fan questions about the movie. A simple question about the meaning of the word “Ragnarok” (it’s basically the Norse version of the apocalypse) became the opening for this amazing, rambling, Goldblumian monologue about Marlon Brando. Check it out:

Oh I get it: Ragna-rock. Yes, a subgenre of rock and roll from the city of Ragna. Sure.

If Mr. Goldblum’s explanation didn’t clear things up enough for you, here’s the film’s official synopsis:

In the story, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time me to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3. And if you want to watch Marlon Brando’s One-Eyed Jacks, it’s currently streaming for free on Tubi TV.
