Almost two years will have passed when The Defenders finally catches us up with Jessica Jones, and it seems Alias Investigations is indeed reopening its doors. Ahead of production next week, Jessica Jones Season 2 has its first major addition in Oscar nominee Janet McTeer.

Entertainment Weekly broke word that the Damages and White Queen star will join Season 2 as – get this – an “undisclosed character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.” Woo, specifics!

In either case, here’s what showrunner Melissa Rosenberg had to say:

We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season. Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.

Elsewhere of Jessica Jones Season 2, we know that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed an all-female director lineup for the next 13 episodes, with True Blood and Supernatural writer Raelle Tucker joining Season 2 to replace executive producer Liz Friedman. Rosenberg has also previously spoken to the possibility of featuring multiple villains, to fill the void left by David Tennant’s Kilgrave.

We’re still awaiting formal confirmation on Jessica Jones Season 2 production dates, but stay tuned for the latest in the meantime.
