‘Luke Cage’ Casts ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Vet Theo Rossi as Villain, Rosario Dawson Confirmed
Despite lacking any official photography of Jessica Jones, Marvel and Netflix keep right on truckin’ with Luke Cage pre-production. Latest to enter the Hero-for-Hire’s world is none other than Sons of Anarchy vet Theo Rossi as a Marvel gangster nemesis, while reports also confirm Rosario Dawson to reprise her Daredevil role as Claire Temple.
According to Deadline, Rossi will take the role of Luke Cage enemy “Shades,” better known as Alvarez, described in initial casting breakdowns as “relentless and menacing, smooth and manipulative, street smart and controlling.” No word if the character has anything to do Alfre Woodard’s “Black Mariah,” “Diamondback” or “Cottonmouth,” three Luke Cage characters rumored to provide antagonistic roles.
Deadline also confirms that Dawson will follow up her Jessica Jones appearance with a role in Luke Cage, understandable given the pair’s comic history together, and Dawson’s earlier deal officiating her character as a go-between for the Defenders series.
Thus far of Netflix’s Luke Cage, we know that Mike Colter will first debut the character in an unspecified number of Jessica Jones episodes (already seen to be super-durable as well), before headlining his own series in 2016, Cheo Hodari Coker will showrun the third Marvel Netflix drama, believed to be beginning production in the near future.
It remains to be seen how Marvel will sort its Luke Cage villains, but in the meantime, keep it here for the latest on Netflix’s next Marvel series, and someone get us a Jessica Jones photo already!
