Turns out Robert Downey Jr. will have his shot at an Oscar this year after all. Disney is pushing for RDJ in the Best Supporting Actor category for Avengers: Endgame.

Earlier in September, Walt Disney Studios announced via their For Your Consideration website the five films it would be campaigning for this award season — Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Frozen II. Originally, Disney didn't push any actors for consideration in this year's Academy Awards, causing some head scratching among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. Avengers: Endgame marks the last time Downey Jr. will appear in a Marvel movie, after over a decade of working with the franchise. It only seemed fitting that they would give him a nod for his final performance, especially since Iron Man marked the beginning of the MCU in 2008.

On an interesting note, Disney has also decided to push for Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle for the same category as Downey Jr. And that's not all — they've also decided to push Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson for Best Supporting Actress. So basically, the whole dang cast. One one hand, it's not surprising for an ensemble-driven movie to want to recognize its talents equally. However, it also means that quite a few of these nominations won't be taken seriously. Plus, Downey Jr. deserves to be singled out for his performance in Avengers: Endgame, especially since it will be his last.
