Netflix Wachowski drama Sense8 suffered an inadvertent update on Season 2 by the recasting of actor Aml Ameen, though questions remained if a long lead time and late renewal might push Season 2 out of 2016. Now, series star Jamie Clayton says Sense8 will stream a Christmas special this year, but formally premiere Season 2 in 2017.

We’ll take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as Netflix may end up scheduling Sense8 Season 2 differently than its cast might suggest, though star Jamie Clayton first confirmed over Twitter that Season 2 would release new content either on, or around Christmas 2016:

… Before specifying that a premiere episode of sorts would debut around Christmas, while the formal Season 2 premiere would wait until 2017.

At the time of publishing, Netflix representatives did not respond to repeated requests for comment, though worth noting is another post from star Daryl Hannah’s Instagram back in March, which seemingly also confirmed a “Christmas Special” episode:

For those unfamiliar, Sense8 follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. Its cast includes Daryl Hannah, LOST star Naveen Andrews, Brian J. Smith (Stargate: Universe), Tuppence Middleton (Jupiter Ascending), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Indian actress Tena Desae, South Korean actress Doona Bae, German actor Max Riemelt, Mexican actors Alfonso Herrera and Erendira Ibarra as well as Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann.

Netflix may come forth with more formal Sense8 Season 2 announcements soon, but would a 2016 Christmas episode be enough to tide fans over until the full 2017 premiere?
