Boy, that Disney really knows how to break the internet. In addition to news of Rian Johnson planning a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, so too is Disney finally pulling the trigger on a live-action Star Wars TV series for its upcoming streaming service. Plus – is Marvel headed away from Netflix?

Disney CEO Bob Iger broke word of a live-action Star Wars TV series on an earnings conference call, though no other details were available beyond the series’ place on Disney’s eventual streaming service in 2019. Iger also confirmed that they were developing a new Marvel series, atop TV adaptations of Monsters Inc. and the Disney Channel’s High School Musical.

As far as the Marvel series – the superhero company’s contract with Netflix expires in 2019, leaving it unclear what becomes of the four Defenders series, their team-up miniseries or Punisher spinoff. The same goes for Hulu’s Runaways, Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger, or the New Warriors series that needs a new home for 2018.

Meanwhile, past reports of a live-action Star Wars TV series (most commonly titled Star Wars: Underworld) were seemingly set on Coruscant between trilogies, while another report suggested the project might have humanized Emperor Palpatine in some manner. ABC boss Channing Dungey previously suggested comments about a Star Wars TV series were blown out of proportion, though Rogue One was at one point discussed for TV.

We’ll learn more details as Disney unveils them, but what should we hope for from a live-action Star Wars series, or new Marvel?
