Of Course ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Is Adding an Original ‘Goonie’
It was apparent to anyone on another planet that Stranger Things wore its ‘80s influence on its sleeve, and it’s only fitting that Season 2 pay back some of those homages. So it is, that original Goonies star Sean Astin of course joins the cast, along with Paul Reiser and more.
Following the initial cast photo, Entertainment Weekly confirms three major new additions for Stranger Things Season 2, including Linnea Berthelsen as Roman, the mysterious outsider teased by a previous casting leak. Astin, meanwhile, will portray Bob Newby, described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.”
As for Reiser? The Aliens star might have another Cameron-influenced corporate baddie to add to his resume:
Paul Reiser (Aliens, Whiplash) has been cast as Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.”
Elsewhere of Stranger Things Season 2, we know shooting will take place in Atlanta through April for a 2017 premiere. The story will pick up in the fall of 1984, while creators Matt and Ross Duffer have teased a James Cameron sequel influence in crafting the second chapter. We’ll also learn more about the Demogorgon and Upside Down, as teased in our exclusive concept art piece, while Sadie Sink and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery have been added to the cast in regular roles.
More Stranger Things details are surely coming, but will Season 2 keep the same ‘80s charm?
