Despite Sons of Anarchy’s end only arriving late last year, we’re already set to begin another cycle of creator Kurt Sutter’s violent narrative by next week’s premiere of FX’s The Bastard Executioner. We’ve seen a few brief spots, but the gorgeous production design is on full display in the full set of photos from next week’s premiere.

In addition to all the fiery carnage on display in the above photos, the newest sneak peek also offers a look at Sutter himself in the role of “The Dark Mute,” mysterious protector to Annora of the Alders, as portrayed by Sutter’s real-life wife and SoA alum Katey Sagal. At the very least, Sutter doesn’t seem to be torturing his character with any repeated mutilation this time around.

The Bastard Executioner follows “a warrior knight in King Edward III’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.” Lee Jones will play the title role, with will True Blood star Stephen Moyer acting as his right hand man Milus, Katey Sagal appearing as “Annora of the Alders,” and even native Welshman and The Americans lead Matthew Rhys in a guest role.

The full Bastard Executioner cast list also offers an expansive preview of the new series, but in the meantime, you can check out the teaser trailers below, and stay tuned for the FX premiere on September 15.
