DC ‘Titans’ Finds Its Robin in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Brenton Thwaites
The Titans officially have a leader. After adding Starfire and Raven to the ranks, the live-action DC digital series has officially found a Dick Grayson to suit up as Robin, casting Pirates of the Caribbean star Brenton Thwaites in the boy-wondrous role.
The Australian Thwaites will lead the 2018 DC drama as Dick Grayson, who “emerges from Batman’s shadow to become the leader of a fearless band of young, soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe.” Thwaites joins 24 alum Anna Diop as “Starfire” princess Koriand’r, and fellow Australian Teagan Croft as Raven in the 2018 series.
Says DC boss Geoff Johns:
Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.
Here’s the synopsis for the series, which will air on DC’s upcoming digital service:
“Titans” follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. “Titans” is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.
Currently eyed for 2018, the new live-action Titans will be written by Akiva Goldsman, DC boss Geoff Johns and DC TV leader Greg Berlanti. The initial synopsis only listed Dick Grayson, Starfire and Raven by name, though Johns hinted over Twitter that comic staple Beast Boy would be making an appearance as well. The initial press release included a classic cover for The New Teen Titans that features Raven, Starfire, Kid Flash, Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg and Wonder Girl, though Kid Flash already appears on The CW’s Flash, while Cyborg was prominently elevated to the live-action Justice League.
We’ll likely learn more in the coming weeks, but who from the Titans may we next meet?
