‘True Detective’ Season 2 Cast May Have Only One Male Lead
True to its namesake, HBO's 'True Detective' has remained a mystery through development of season 2, as series creator Nic Pizzolatto seems to shoot down rumor after rumor about casting and character. The series has attracted controversy for lacking much of a female perspective, and that's something that may continue to circle the show as it seems the new season of 'True Detective' may again focus on a male lead.
Take this with a minor grain of salt for the moment, but according to The Wrap's Twitter account, Pizzolatto has officially turned in the first script from 'True Detective' season 2, of which agency sources claim that the series will have a single male lead, as opposed to two male leads, or a female lead like many had hoped. At the very least, the report indicates male and female co-stars will be present for the series, because, you know, both men and women exist. In the world, and such.
The Wrap's report also seems to conflict somewhat with Pizzolatto's earlier words that “There is a strong [lead] female character. But I wouldn’t say it is female-led or anything like that.” The show creator also specified that he'd be unlikely to stay with 'True Detective' beyond three seasons, though that wouldn't necessarily mean the demise of the series altogether.
In addition to the new season’s three leads and California setting, we have our own ideas about potential talent to which ‘True Detective’ season 2 might look. Besides everything we already know about the next cycle, Pizzolatto told press previously that he’d like to focus on “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” though it remains unclear how seriously we should take those words.
Well, what do you think? If 'True Detective' season 2 had only one male lead, might it still find a place for some stronger female characters than the first cycle? What would you like to see when the HBO drama returns for a second case in 2015?
