Yes, folks, there is an 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' post-credits scene, though it's plugged all the way at the very end of the credits and you probably won't know what the heck it's all about if you haven't been keeping up with your superhero movie news or 'X-Men' lore. Some may even start cursing for having waited in their seats that long for a seemingly underwhelming payoff, but trust us, you should start getting amped for the coming Apocalypse!

Here's everything you need to know about the 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' post-credits scene and what it means for the sequel, SPOILERS included.

When the credits finish rolling, the black screen and drumming music open to the sands of Egypt. As the camera slowly pans up, we see a cloaked figure, hands raised, with his thousands of subjects bowing and chanting praise. We soon see the pharaoh-like figure commanding blocks of stone to fly through the air with ease and assemble themselves into a giant pyramid. The camera angles and reveals a young, grey-skinned boy with reddish eyes under the cloak, and positioned close by in the background are four hooded figures on horseback.

So, who is this guy? Answer -- Apocalypse, aka En Saba Nur. Or, more likely, his younger self.

We previously reported that 20th Century Fox scheduled the 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' sequel, 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' for release on May 27, 2016, and the film will see the most iconic and one of the most powerful villains in the 'X-Men' comic books realized onscreen.

Briefly, Apocalypse is an ancient mutant born in Egypt with the ability to control his body on a molecular level, allowing him to shape change, alter his size, and channel super strength, energy and some psionic abilities, though his full capabilities haven't been fully documented. In addition, he also came into contact with alien technology in ancient Egypt, with which he fused and used to prolong his life, seemingly, indefinitely. These vast powers coupled with his warped perspective of "survival of the fittest" see him as one of the X-Men's most dangerous adversaries who is constantly trying to enslave humanity. If you need more than that, he's the X-Men equivalent of 'Justice League''s Darkseid or 'The Avengers'' Thanos.

Apocalypse Four Horsemen

Also worth addressing are the four horsemen plugged into the 'Days of Future Past' post-credits scene -- Apocalypse was known for forcibly (though sometimes willingly) enlisting four mutants to become his genetically enhanced Four Horsemen: Famine, War, Pestilence and Death. (Get it?! Four Horsemen of Apocalypse?) One iteration of the Horsemen saw Apocalypse transforming the mutant Angel, after he despairingly lost his wings, into Archangel and become Death, a position later filled by another familiar 'X-Men' character -- Wolverine!

According to Bryan Singer, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will be somewhat based on the 'Age of Apocalypse' comic book arc and will be set in the '80s, focusing on James McAvoy's Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Nicholas Hoult's Beast, though he also teased Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum, who was recently cast as Gambit in a forthcoming spinoff movie, may also end up making an appearance in some capacity, perhaps in a post-credits scene, while writer-producer Simon Kinberg says Evan Peters' Quicksilver "would absolutely be back" for 'Apocalypse' with the potential to also include Scarlet Witch.

"‘Apocalypse’ deals with ancient mutancy," Singer said. "What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"
