Yesterday gave us our best look yet at 'American Horror Story's third year with a creepy new teaser that, shock of all shocks, actually featured the cast, but that isn't the only side of 'American Horror Story: Coven' opening up in advance of the October 9 premiere. "Bitchcraft" is afoot in the season 3 debut, and FX has the spoilery first synopsis to prove it!

Taking a page or two from 'X-Men,' the first official episode synopsis from 'American Horror Story: Coven' premiere "Bitchcraft" gives us a bit of insight into Taissa Farmiga's character, whose skills in magic become the focal point through which we're introduced to a centuries-old battle of witchcraft and voodoo:

A young girl, Zoe, is shattered to discover she possesses a strange genetic affliction tracing back to the dark days of Salem. Zoe is whisked away to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a mysterious school in New Orleans devoted to safeguarding the few remaining descendants who share this unique bloodline. Harboring a secret agenda, Fiona Goode, the most powerful witch of their generation, returns to town, reigniting old rivalries with the Coven’s deadly enemies, the Voodoo.

While we wait for the October 9 premiere, we know that the third season will move back and forthbetween both present and 1830s New Orleans to tell the story. ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ will also welcome newcomers Danny Huston, Christine Ebersole, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Leslie Jordan and Gabourey Sidibe, along with returning franchise regulars Jessica Lange, Denis O’Hare, Alexandra Breckinridge, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.
